The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) is considered a success if you ask Premiers impacted by the new pool of talent coming into their provinces. In this news update, I’ll explain the success of this program and clarify how it is different from the AIPP which has closed as of December 31, 2021.
Firstly, what is the purpose of any immigration program in a country? The purpose is to attract people from other countries who fit a profile of a certain group needed in the country running the immigration program. There are a few ways to measure the success of any immigration program. One measure is how long the immigrant stays in the country after gaining legal immigration status. The second measure is how integrated and successful the new immigrant can become in the country. The final measure I’ll mention is the overall benefit to the country running the immigration program. Of course, there are more metrics but I’ll focus on these three for the focus of this news update.
When speaking about the Atlantic Immigration Program, according to Sean Fraser, the Immigration Minister, “It has brought us the resource we need most: more people. They’re skilled and they’re young and they’re staying.”
Thus the program has been a success in attracting the kind of people the province needs to come and stay, that is, the young and skilled workers. By this measure, the program is doing well.
According to sources, since the AIP program launched in 2017, it has created over 9800 job offers in various industry sectors including hospitality, food services, healthcare, and manufacturing. Additionally, over 90 percent of those who came to the AIP were still living in the region one year later.
This measure shows that the new immigrant appears to be integrating well into the provinces where they settled. This is great news for anyone thinking of settling in regions of Atlantic Canada.
New Brunswick Immigration Minister Arlene Dunn expressed that the pilot program has been great for New Brunswick, “The Atlantic Immigration Pilot has been an important part of New Brunswick’s population growth strategy and integral to building more cohesive, diverse and inclusive communities in our province.”
With regards to our last metric, we must look at whether or not the program provides overall benefits to the country or in this case the provinces. The answer is an absolute yes based on the responses of the ministers.
But didn’t a previous Immigration news bulletin mention the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP) was closed as of December 31, 2021? Yes, that is correct.
The AIPP is ending while the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) will continue after March 5, 2022. If it sounds confusing, think of it like this. The AIPP could be like a bike with all the features. That bike will not be available after March 5, 2022. However, the regular bike with all the standard features will be available from March 6, 2022, onward.
What does it mean for you? It means if you want to be considered in the AIPP, you have a very limited time. But if you can’t possibly meet the deadline, then you can still work on a slower schedule and apply to the AIP anytime in 2022.

The government of Canada recently released a bulletin that stated that the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP) closed as of December 31, 2021. Let us take a few minutes to break down exactly what it means for you.
The AIPP has announced the closure of the program as well as the expiration of some pilot bilateral agreements. This means that the program is essential not going forward in the long term.
There is a glimmer of hope however for anyone who is ready now to take advantage of this program. Though the program is closed, the Ministerial Instructions (MIs) allow for the program to continue until March 5, 2022.
What does this mean? If you were already preparing all of your paperwork, and if you were basically ready to submit your paperwork, you still have January and February 2022 to do so. After March 5, 2022, that door will be shut for good. Any applications received for the Pilot after that March date should be automatically rejected.
There is still time to try to get in within a very narrow window of opportunity. You literally have just over 55 days to get all your information prepared. This is time sensitive so tell your family and friends.

The Express Entry program operated by Citizen and Immigration Canada was just given an update that should have people wanting to immigrate to Canada jumping for joy right now, but few people understanding it. Let us at Wigwam explain it to you in this article.
On February 13, 2021, CIC issued the highest number of invitations that it has issued in the program. It issued 27,000, which was five times higher than the previous record. This is such an astounding bit of news that it literally sent shock waves through the legal profession and the immigration consulting profession.
The Express Entry system is based on how many points you can gain on a scale of a variety of factors. Usually, a person wishing to have a chance at success had to have a score in the range of 400. This time, it was reduced to 75!!
We at WigWam are always on the lookout for news that positively impacts our clients. As you can tell, this news is very important news and it would seem that now is the opportune time to encourage all family members and friends you know to consider coming to Canada.
With the number of invitations being five times higher than it was ever plus the fact that Canada wants to attract more immigrants, now is the ideal time for anyone thinking of coming to Canada to give it some serious thought and even be prepared to take action.
With the score being so low for a short time, it is really important to grab such opportunities when they arise. Policies can change from time to time and this drop from 400 to 75 is a remarkable gift to many people. But no doubt it could be a time-sensitive gift.
At WigWam, we want to serve you and help you with your goals of immigrating to Canada to create a new life. Opportunities come and go all the time. If coming to Canada has been a dream of yours but it seemed out of reach, perhaps now is to the time to give us a call or come in for a personal consultation.

Basic information [update coming soon]
StudyIn addition to main stream immigration program, federal government initiates various pilot immigration program to meet urgent needs for Canadian economy. The pilot program have very short tenure.
Pilot ProjectsImmigration pilots are limited-term programs specifically designed to address the needs of particular areas and communities in Canada. These pilot programs aim to bring unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled foreigners in to address these shortages by creating a path to permanent residence for those who want to live and work permanently in Canada.
This pilot is geared for individual towns and communities to address shortages in their labour market. It is similar to the PNP in that if you can get a job offer from a participating business within the community, you will receive a nomination from the local government for permanent residency. There is no skill level required, all occupation levels are eligible.
If you are a foreign skilled worker with a valid job offer from a participating business or a foreign graduate from a publicly funded post-secondary school institution in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, or Newfoundland and Labrador you may be eligible to apply for permanent residency through the Atlantic Immigration Pilot. The pilot is scheduled to run until December 2021, and with the regions labour force still contracting, this year is a great time to secure permanent residency in Canada through this pathway.
This pilot opens the door for unskilled and semi-skilled workers who may have struggled to find pathways to permanent residency in the past. Canada has a significant shortage in the food production industry and has thus created this avenue to address the problem. Canadian immigration will process 2,750 permanent
resident applications annually for foreign farm labourers, farm supervisors, harvesters, butchers, and food processing labourers. The program works on a first come first serve basis though, so it is important to get in early.
Replacing the old caregiver program are two new pilots. The Home Child Care Provider Pilot makes provision for foreign workers with an offer to take care of minors such as nanny’s and au pairs. The Home Support Worker Pilot makes provision for foreign workers with offers of employment for the care of elderly, disabled or otherwise incapacitated persons. Employers do not require Labour Market Impact Assessments to hire foreigner workers and two years of work experience in Canada is required to become a permanent resident.
